Snow Roberts, Assistant Director for Broadreach Summer Adventures, has referred other companies to Commence CRM because, “We see the product and its ability to allow customizable solutions for businesses.”

Broadreach offers unsurpassed experiential summer adventures for teenagers including scuba, sailing, multi-sport and wilderness programs that span the globe. Our academic adventure and community service division, Academic Treks, also offers hands-on marine biology, language immersion and community service expeditions that qualify for college credit. Each year we take over 800 teenagers to some of the world’s most incredible destinations including the islands of the Caribbean, Australia, Fiji, Egypt, Central and South America, China, France, Canada and the Bahamas. We are immensely proud of our reputation as the best and most trusted name in teenage experiential adventure programs, and we continue to broaden the breadth and scope of the unparalleled opportunities we offer young adults.

Broadreach’s educational adventures provide opportunities for teenagers to learn new skills and explore the world in an active, hands-on environment that fully immerses the participant in the experience. Each trip has its own blend of discoveries and challenges, designed to take advantage of the unique character and opportunities of the regions we visit. Combining the thrill of discovery, the pride of accomplishment and the excitement of exploration, Broadreach programs focus on individual initiative, group dynamics and genuine participation in the world.

Roberts said that Commence has allowed the company to, “Capture the data in a way that is useful to our business, along with the ease to customize the views and functions of the database, as well as the ability to look at a live database that can sync across several different formats.”

Many small and mid-sized businesses (SMB) have taken notice of Commence Corporation (www.commence.com), a provider of on-premise and hosted web-based solutions designed specifically for this businesses sector. The company is gaining momentum and marketshare with Commence On-Demand, a suite of CRM (customer relationship management) applications that is deployed as software as a service (SaaS).

The competitors “out of the box products” were too rigid for Broadreach Summer Adventures’ needs and Commence offered a customizable contact management solution that worked since 1996 (including several upgrades.)

According to Larry Caretsky, President of Commence CRM, “We are delighted that Broadreach is able to gain so much benefit from the technology solutions we provide.”

What I Did When My Workstations Slowed to a Halt: Switched to Avg!

About the Author

About the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes:

The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes is a 501 (c)(3), non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to helping the severely wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families rebuild their lives. The organization is the top nongovernmental association helping wounded troops from Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom and since its 2004 inception, has assisted over 6,000 troops.

More than $11 million dollars has been distributed to date to prevent car repossessions and utility shut-offs, while trips to sporting events, entertainment parks, and shows help service members boost morale, break the boredom of the routine of recuperation and help reintegrate wounded troops into civilian life. The annual all-expense-paid Road to Recovery Conference provides seminars, career counseling, job fairs, evaluations, and inspirational success stories.

Claremont, NC –March 5th, 2008—Richard Becker is the IT Administrator for the Osage County School System in Linn, Missouri. When he came on board four years ago, he quickly found out that he had a mess on his hands. There were multiple different internet security solutions deployed individually across 325 workstations. Slow performance resulted, cutting student computer time back significantly. One of the first items on his to-do list was to implement one security solution for the entire school system.

“Symantec’s products were causing some of our workstations to run slower than slow,” commented Becker. “They were eating up way too much of our systems’ resources and taking away from the already small amount of time students had in the computer labs. It was also very frustrating and expensive to keep up with their annual license renewals.”

Osage County Schools is a private school system and, because of financial constraints, the students’ workstations were already resource-limited. “Because of our tight budget, I only have one other person to help me manage these 325 machines, as well as keep up with maintenance,” said Becker. “The Symantec solution was causing my patience to wear pretty thin, what with the updating issues and constant flow of help desk calls as a result of the performance problems.”

A couple of years ago, Becker was reading some posts on a technology listserv run by and for technology coordinators in his area, when he came across references to AVG Anti-Virus that indicated the product was becoming a preferred security product for school systems, around the country. The listserv posters were discussing exactly the same problems that Becker had run into – well-known security products were eating up all their systems’ resources and AVG was like a breath of fresh air – One poster described it as “nearly invisible” on their workstations by comparison.

When Becker read that AVG also offered two-year licenses, had a lower price point than the competition, and still provided all the necessary protection and removal capabilities, he decided he needed to learn more.

“It really sounded as if this product might be the answer to Osage County’s computer security problems,” he recalled.

Becker searched around on the Internet, read further into his state listserv, and found the recommended Education supplier for AVG, Walling Data Systems. Walling offered a 50% discount to school systems as well as Free and Unlimited US-based Phone, Remote, and Email support, things Becker could only dream of finding at Symantec at no charge.

“I contacted Walling Data Systems to learn more about AVG, and to find out more about purchasing the licenses necessary to support our district,” said Becker. “I used their free remote support offering to help me deploy AVG to all of our workstations. They couldn’t have made it any easier! In no time, we were setup and protected by AVG, with zero pain on our part.”

Now, three years later, Becker reports that Osage County has had zero issues with the management and maintenance of the AVG Anti-Virus protection. Not only are the computers running more efficiently now that they are not bogged down by resource-hungry security products; Becker is also enjoying the more flexible licensing and the central administration tools that monitor his installation.

“AVG’s central administration tools have nice reporting features,” he said. “As all information goes to the AVG server, I can easily track down systems that may be suspect and respond to issues before the phone rings at the helpdesk. Then, I can fix the issues from my desk without having to trek across the campus, saving me time that is already very limited.”

Why did Becker choose to purchase AVG through Walling Data Systems? The answer was simple:

“The cost to purchase AVG through Walling Data was lower than through other distributors, and the fact that they offered Free and Unlimited US-based support was a huge selling point,” he said. “The team at Walling Data Systems provides great support, from implementation, to general support on through the years of ongoing use.

Those guys are just wonderful to work with. Our renewal is coming up this spring, and you bet we’ll be renewing it,” he said with a grin.

For more information about how to purchase AVG software for education, contact Walling Data Systems toll free at 866-833-5727 (toll free in the US and Canada), online at http://www.avg-antivirus.net or by emailing to sales@avg-antivirus.net.

Claremont, NC – May 15th, 2008 – As a Technology Coordinator for the Arch Ford Education Service Cooperative, Christy Trantina provides technology guidance to more than 26 school districts in seven counties of Arkansas. In addition, she is responsible for maintaining the health and security of the Co-Op’s central network which includes six servers and 150 workstations.

When Trantina came on board more than six years ago, the office was using the free version of AVG. As a long-time fan of AVG’s products, she was happy to continue with the brand. “I trust the folks at AVG to secure our systems. I use AVG software at home too – it is the only security software I use because I know it works.”

As the Co-Op grew, it became clear that they needed to upgrade from the free product to a broader and more network-friendly commercial AVG solution due to the free products’ home-use only license limitations, and lack of features.

Trantina wanted to work with a supplier who understood both the needs of the education sector and could provide the AVG solution she needed, so she turned to her colleagues for advice.

“I knew I could trust AVG to meet our needs. I just needed to find a supplier who could do the same. Walling Data Systems was recommended to us by a technology coordinator out of state. From the beginning they were great to work with, plus their educational pricing worked within our budget.”

Walling Data Systems is the country’s longest-standing distributor of AVG Technologies solutions and the highest-volume distributor in North America. Walling specializes in the education and nonprofit sectors, and is the only distributor to offer all customers free, unlimited, U.S.-based support.

Spreading the Word

In addition to managing the headquarters’ network, Trantina stays busy helping technology coordinators at each of the 26 school districts implement best practices and make appropriate purchasing decisions.

“The coordinators in each district come to me when they have questions or need recommendations for products and procedures. Since Arkansas is a relatively small state, we are a close-knit group,” Trantina says. “We are all so busy that we often share ideas and suggestions via a listserv – products that are working well, vendors that are providing great service, and other issues that will help us all make the most of our limited technology budgets.”

After her positive experience with Walling Data Systems, Trantina began to spread the word about them. She used the listserv to recommend AVG to her peers, and to purchase through Walling.

“AVG is so efficient and cost-effective that it really is the only choice for our security. I wanted to make sure that all the technology coordinators had the same great experience in purchasing the software too, so recommending Walling was the obvious way to go.”

Walling Data Systems’ no-cost US support was also a big plus for Trantina. “Their value added support gives me peace of mind. Any of my coordinators can just email or call up Walling directly for assistance and get it resolved quickly.”

“Luckily, I’ve never needed product support personally because, for me, AVG is like the Maytag repair man – you know he’s there but you don’t ever need him! But for my coordinators who are less familiar with the software and might have questions, I know the team at Walling will give them all the assistance they need. Taking care of their customers is important to them, and it shows in the service they provide.”

Peter Trahan has been the Systems Operation Director at Radio America, a national radio network, for the past eight years. When he first joined the non-profit, it was evident he had work to do – the organization had more than 40 workstations, but not a single one of them was running anti-virus software.

“Job number one was to get some anti-virus protection onto the workstations,” said Trahan. “So the search was on for a solution that was powerful yet inexpensive. As a non-profit, we have to count every penny we spend, and at that time we decided to go with a free product. We chose AVG Free Edition, and we were very pleased with the results.”

However, it was clear that using AVG Free across 40 PCs in a business environment – nonprofit or no – was not the best long-term solution, nor within the terms of the license Trahan discovered. So Trahan started to look around for a way to convert the Free license to the commercial version of the software, and found Walling Data on AVG.com.

“The purchase process was very simple and straightforward,” Trahan remembered. “I emailed Walling with our needs and they called us back to walk us through setting everything up. The centralized management tool in particular makes my job so much easier. In fact, the whole process of converting to the commercial product couldn’t have been easier – and there was no extra charge for the service, which was another pleasant surprise.”

Walling Data is the longest-standing and highest-volume distributor of AVG Technologies solutions in North America, and also the only distributor to offer all its customers free, unlimited, U.S.-based pre- and post-sales support. Walling additionally provides nonprofit organizations with a significant discount on AVG products, making them an even more attractive choice for Radio America.

Trahan admits that, in addition to the unlimited free support they would receive, the price break for non-profits was the icing on the cake.

“As a non-profit, we don’t have a very big IT budget, so price is always an issue for us,” Trahan said. “We were very happy to discover that we got a pretty nice discount on licenses through Walling Data. That was a big plus.”

Since installing AVG, Trahan says that he has had no issues with viruses or other malware and is completely sold on the product and the service he receives through Walling Data. For more information, visit http://www.avg-antivirus.net.

More than 80 million people across the world trust AVG Anti-Virus to protect their computers. One of them is Clyde Leslie of Miami, Florida.

Leslie is like most people: He wants an effective security software product to protect his computer from dangerous viruses and spy-ware. What he does not want, is to spend a fortune on the product or support.

“For years, I was running Norton on my computer but I got viruses all the time. On top of the hefty price tag, it was not worth it for me to continue using it anymore. So, I started to look for something else,” states Leslie.

Leslie said he consulted with friends about the alternatives.

“Some friends said that AVG was much better than Norton, so I looked it up on the Internet and found out that there were a lot of people out there who agreed. I installed the Free Edition on one my computers to test it out,” he remembered. “The Free Edition automatically caught dozens of viruses that Norton never detected so I hopped online to buy the full product from an Authorized AVG Distributor in the United States.”

The Road to Walling

Through online research, Leslie discovered that Walling Data provides free and unlimited product support for the entire AVG Anti-Virus product line. He admits that added benefit made his decision to purchase from Walling Data an easy one.

Walling Data is the longest-standing and highest-volume distributor of AVG Technologies solutions in North America, and also the only distributor to offer all its customers free, unlimited, U.S.-based pre- and post-sales support.

“With some fantastic help from the guys at Walling Data, I got AVG installed on one of my computers and I’ve never had one single threat to my computer since. AVG detects threats then quarantines and then deletes them every time” replied Leslie.

Leslie continued, “Seeing is believing for me. I’ve seen what AVG can do so I would feel comfortable telling anyone, family member or stranger, to use AVG. It’s the best antivirus software available.”

Today Leslie has three laptops and though only one of them is running AVG, he admits it won’t be long before all of them will.

“The computer that runs AVG operates so much better than the other two that are still using Norton. I cannot wait for my subscriptions to Norton to run out because I’m moving them over to AVG that instant!”

Illinois Courthouse Finds Security With Avg Anti-virus

Like many small government organizations, the Mercer County Courthouse of Aleda, Illinois has limited resources and staff. So it comes as no surprise that one of its’ staff members, Jeff Benson, frequently finds himself running the organizations network in addition to his other duties.

“My knowledge about technology is not extensive, but I know more than my coworkers so I’ve been in charge of our IT purchases and decision making for 12 years. I am the one our staff turns to when they encounter issues with software or workstations,” Benson said.

Benson reflected back to 2001, when the courthouse first implemented connectivity to the internet. He quickly realized the critical need for a security solution to keep out hackers, viruses and other threats without sacrificing performance or breaking the bank.

“For a while we ran Trend Micro and were pleased, at first, with its performance,” Benson recalled. “When we went wireless this year, we needed to upgrade to the new version of that product. It was then that we noticed Trend Micro eating up way too much of our systems’ resources and slowing everything down dramatically.”

Benson said that the final straw was in the early summer of 2008 when a virus threat seeped through and threatened their infrastructure.

“A virus took over some of our computers,” Benson said. “To make it worse, the only way I could figure out how to get rid of it was to purchase software that ran $120 a pop! I realized then that if a virus ever threatened us again, we would have to spend more taxpayer dollars to clean up the mess. So this incident, coupled with all the other issues, forced us to look for a replacement.”

AVG: Compatible, Safe, Secure

Benson reached out to his most valued source for advice, the organizations Internet Service Provider (ISP).

“Our ISP recommended that we check out AVG Network Edition as a replacement for Trend Micro,” Benson said. “They promised that AVG would not hog all our systems’ resources and it was affordable.”

After conducting further research, he installed a Trial Version of AVG Network Edition on a few workstations as a test run.

“I was amazed with the performance of the AVG product,” Benson recalled. “It was so unobtrusive that I forgot it was there. Even better, it caught all sorts of nasty viruses that Trend never did.”

Walling Data: Prompt, Thorough, Domestic Technical Support

Following the installation of the Free Trial, Benson convinced the County that AVG was the best fit for their organization. He said, “AVG did the job right protecting our network without taking time away from daily work, so the county quickly approved the purchase. I hopped online and found lots of referrals to an AVG Distributor, Walling Data,” Benson said. “I contacted them and proceeded with ordering the licenses we needed.”

Walling Data is the longest-standing and highest-volume distributor of AVG Technologies solutions in North America, and the only distributor to offer all of its’ customer’s free, unlimited, U.S.-based pre- and post-sales support.

“Walling was so easy to work with. They were responsive and helpful during the entire sales and installation process. Reliable service like that is hard to find. I’m thankful that they helped speed up the process so that I could get back to work!”

Benson says “It has been smooth sailing ever since” and is happy with the decision to switch to AVG Network Edition.

“What I like best about AVG is that I don’t see it!” Benson said. “You don’t have to babysit it all the time like we did with Trend Micro. The updates are constant and if there is a threat to our network, it is handled by AVG immediately and automatically. I can’t ask for much more than that!”

Setting Up Business in the Uk, and How to Find the Right Offices ? Fast

Setting up a business overseas will always present the proprietor with a range of challenges – challenges which will vary from becoming versed in local employment law and getting to grips with corporate taxation, all the way through to navigating the disparities of the real estate market from country to country.

Speed of setting up a business

In today’s business climate – more than ever before – time is the key issue. Maintaining first mover advantage is critical in today’s rapidly changing business world; and for many businesses, the speed with which they can establish a new operation may mean the difference between failure and success. This is an important issue when expanding in your domestic market. But when the corporate strategy dictates overseas expansion, the issues become altogether more complex.

Location

To confuse matters further, in countries such as the UK, choosing the location of your office can be critical to its success. To many, the UK’s small size – relative to the US, for example – may appear to make a real estate location decision easier. After all, five miles in one direction or the other… how much difference can that really make? The answer – in London at any rate – is that it can make a huge difference: the character of the city, the polarisation of business sectors and skills and the transport links will all have a major impact on the success of a new business.

Evaluating headline rents vs total occupation costs

Then there is the issue of the premises themselves. Again, taking London as our example, there is a bewildering array of office accommodation available – from the small office suite in a period building, to the brand new, eco-friendly office in a state-of-the-art modern business centre – all being offered on different terms. Some leases will be on a short-term basis, while others will be offered for a 5-year term only; some office leases may include additional extras, such as fit-out costs or service charges, and occupiers may incur huge penalties for breaking the lease early.

Additional costs may include agents’ fees, other professional fees, local business rates, support staff, office equipment rentals and rising energy costs, all of which will result in the bottom-line occupational cost bearing little resemblance to the initial, headline rental figure.

Serviced office solutions

If you are considering setting up a new, overseas operation in the UK, it is worth considering the role that the serviced office can provide.

First and foremost, given the time-critical path that most businesses now run to, serviced offices can provide an immediate ‘home’ – one that can be literally up and running, fully-staffed, cabled up and connected within days. …Unlike the time involved in short listing your potential office, then negotiating and signing a conventional lease, fitting out and furnishing the space and staffing up, which can take months.

Second, with serviced offices costs quoted on an all-inclusive basis (with no hidden extras such as service charges and local rates) it can give you a quick snapshot of your total occupation costs, and how these vary from location to location, enabling you to make an informed decision, using like-for-like information.

Thirdly, with full support services as part of the package, you can focus on your business, and rely on the fact that the serviced office provider will staff and manage the day-to-day support your business requires.

Case study: ReachLocal UK Inc.

ReachLocal is a leading global provider of local online marketing solutions that makes available to advertisers over 98 percent of the major search engine landscape through alliances with Google, Yahoo! and MSN. Founded in 2004, ReachLocal is a privately held U.S. corporation backed by VantagePoint Venture Partners, Rho Ventures and Galleon Crossover Fund. The company is headquartered in Woodland Hills, California with offices located throughout the United States; Sydney and Melbourne, Australia; Toronto, Canada; and most recently – London, UK.

(ReachLocal came to the UK in April 2008 to prepare for the launch of its European head office and begin offering its patent-pending services to SMB’s throughout the UK. (ReachLocal Launches In Western Europe).

The Executive Offices Group provides fully serviced offices and meeting space, video conferencing and virtual office facilities in prime locations across London and the UK.

If You Need Help With Putting A Large Computer Purchase In Your Vehicle, The People At The Apple Store Will

If you need help with putting a large computer purchase in your vehicle, the people at the Apple Store will happily take it out on a small hand dolly. And if you should happen to have a technical failure, the people there are able to replace something like a failed pair of headphones with a brand new pair right away.

Alienware™ Command Center provides intuitive, user-friendly access to exclusive applications and controls, including AlienFX™ lighting effects software and the AlienFusion power management system. Updates and new releases download directly into Command Center, creating a constantly evolving tool for modifying and personalizing your M11x.

iTunes was also a major factor in the success of Apple(Apple A1175 Battery)’s portable music player, the iPod. Working together as a single “ecosystem,” iTunes and iPods created a seamless software and hardware solution for gathering music and playing it on the go.

Within a few minutes, the upgrade will be completed and it will restart with the new version of Windows 7 installed. You also have other operating systems you can install, such as Linux if that is your flavor. Below is a screen shot of Ubuntu 9.10 running on the Samsung N130 Netbook. You can install any version you wish, however, be mindful of driver issues as the Realtek card used with the N130 was not automatically recognized by Ubuntu and I had to download and compile a driver for the wireless network to use it on my own.

Entourage Systems Inc., the startup behind the product, says it’s working on getting the Edge to consume less power when closed, and hopes to be able to send a software update out in June.

The other problems with the Edge are that it’s heavy, at about 3 pounds. The Kindle weighs two-thirds of a pound. For $499, you’d expect the Edge to have cellular wireless access for book and newspaper downloads, as the $259 Kindle and the $400 Sony(VGP-BPS2C Battery) Reader Daily Edition do. Instead, it has only Wi-Fi access.

There’s no doubt that wiggling beyond the confines of OS X’s EULA is an individual ethical call, but netbook owners who do have great rewards to look forward to. or anyone who has ever considered installing Snow Leopard on that tiny Atom-powered laptop collecting dust in the corner, MyMacNetbook is shaping up to be an excellent resource.

Unfortunately, with a body this thin, there’s not much room for a Dell XPS M1330 battery. In our video playback battery drain test, the Adamo XPS ran for only 1 hour and 23 minutes, a score we’d expect to see only from the biggest of desktop replacements. Considering this system had an SSD hard drive and a ULV processor, that’s especially poor. In anecdotal testing, however, we got a little between 2 and 2.5 hours of general use from the slim battery pack when surfing the Web, working on office docs, etc.

PowerTrunk announced that it has received FCC and Industry Canada type acceptance for its TETRA 0.2 mobile and portable digital radios. The radio uses an emissions mask that is different than what is used for TETRA radios in other parts of the world, which is important, said Steve Smith, the company’s sales director.

Talking about Dell’s recent moves, Garde said, “At Dell, a reinvented mobile computing portfolio meant a line-up of new personal computing devices that boasted of award-winning design. Thin remains in and we see a definite niche in the premium craftsmanship market, where we launched the new brand of Adamo by Dell(Inspiron 6400 Battery) and its successor Adamo XPS. We continue to believe there is a need to meet the needs of specific segments, and within our specialized SMB dedicated portfolio, it was a successful year for the Vostro range, including the ultra-portable Vostro 1220 and the Vostro V 13 for premium mobility, design and built-in security—all at an affordable price.”

In terms of features, the T410 includes everything you’d expect, plus a few extras not found on competing laptops. It has four USB 2.0 ports, with one port that you can set up to provide power even when the laptop is off (i.e. for charging a cell phone, iPod, or similar device). It has an eSATA port and mini-FireWire, providing all the external interfaces users are likely to need. An optional docking station connects via the bottom of the laptop, providing for additional USB and video outputs. The T410 includes a VGA output with DisplayPort as the digital output option; single-link resolutions will work fine with a simple adapter, but if you want to run a high resolution 2560×1440/2560×1600 LDC you’ll need an active adapter—which can cost $100

The laptop does offer a decent array of Fn keys which allow you to perform common tasks such as dimming the display, adjusting the volume, toggling the wireless, or putting the computer to sleep using keyboard shortcuts. The touchpad is decent, but nothing to write home about. It’s about the same width as the space bar, although the touchpad is located a tiny bit to the left of the space bar.
